Lucid Thoughts: Days Gone Dark

As of writing this piece, it is now the sixth day of the uprisings in this country. Yet there are those who aren’t even remotely affected by the cause, the need, the understanding, & continue to belittle it. For days, I have been writing small blurbs to myself, in my note pad. Moments where I want to scream, moments of silence. Other times, just trying to see beyond the tears that continue to formulate from my eyes. They drench the very keyboard that I try to express myself on. It is pain, it is love, it is unwavering faith, a contestant ebb & flow of emotions.

If you cannot relate to this, if you have not been able to “fathom what is going on, can’t wrap your head around it”, or think the “rioting is too much”. Then you are part of the problem. I wrote something a few days back:

“Educate yourself on what GREATNESS, really looks like..”

I say this because there has been a call to arms for the last 4 years to Make America Great Again. You know why that plea doesn’t work? Simply put, it has NEVER been great. So how can you try bring America back to a place that it never knew? It’s impossible. But it is much easier to stay in world of delusion. A fabricated construct that allows those to get to the finish line of nowhere fast. Her we find ourselves in a supposed nation, a Divided States of Hypocrisy. Yes, it’s only been 4 years of this slogan, this motto, that has tainted the very millions of people, who are great, who are magnificent, creative, loving, pioneers, and most importantly: HUMAN BEINGS.

When I say BLACKLIVESMATTER, it is beyond a hashtag. Some may say my skin isn’t dark enough to be in that category, so maybe I’m brown, maybe I’m not brown enough to speak up. My words or actions won’t be enough or ever heard. I believe that doesn’t change the mere reality of what is happening to those we love in the Black Community, it affects everybody, one way or another.

My life growing up in NYC, far removed from my native family, has always been embraced by the Black Community. My best friends growing up were strong, black, females & males. Their mothers opened their doors to me, where mine constantly closed the door to my face. They showed me unconditional love, compassion, understanding. Instilled in me the very groundwork and foundation of who I am today. My skin, my background, was irrelevant to their eyes, because they looked at me through their hearts. Even to this day, I walk with them proudly in the streets. I support their works, their thoughts, their LIVES. I refuse to lose them, I refuse to live and accept that tomorrow, they can step out, and may never return home, that I may never get a text back or a phone call. I REFUSE!

That reality is worth fighting for, the LIVES of the great and many. However you can find your voice, through videos, writing, protesting, prayer. If you truly care for a country let alone a world where there can be peace, do something. Hitting the block button won’t change what that that individual will do. It’s a lot more than that. They have made themselves seen and heard. They have showed us that they feel they are untouchable. Now we show them who the majority really is! The ones who really can make a difference! The ones who can Make America A Better Place!

NO JUSTICE. NO PEACE
