E3 from home...again!
So E3 2021 is officially over. Can’t say this was the best E3 because honestly its been downhill for quite sometime.. Though I do miss flying out to LA to partake in the events. Usually there are other things coinciding with the event that make it much more memorable or enjoyable, like 2019’s Final Fantasy 7 orchestra event with the Full FF7R game reveal/release date at then end of it.
Sheesh!!! I still get goosebumps, even just writing about that.
So here we are another year of virtual events. As we know Sony has removed from themselves as a whole for a few years now. Having their own events either later, during mid/late summer. Xbox and Nintendo continue with their own showcases respectively, as well having more things throughout the summer. Usually by the end one dev, company and/or game is crowned the “Best of E3”. So if you were on my IG stories I’m sure you saw my highlights. So who ‘won’ E3 this year. Honestly, it would be Xbox, with Nintendo coming in 2nd, even though I would hold the Elden Ring reveal as 2nd. But the reality is, it was shown a day before E3, so it’s not considered to be apart of it. Yes, seems trivial but, it was shown by a different company showcase: SummerGamesFest.
Nintendo honestly holds second place merely for its Metroid: Dread reveal. Without that it wouldn’t have held any weight to be even in the top 3 anything, as it wasn’t the best showing to date for them.
Now understand that I am the most, neutral, gamer you will know. I love all 3 home consoles for different reasons. I am not biased at all. Only thing I never really comment on is PC gaming as I do not own a gaming PC myself. I leave that realm for my brother, he’s the expert there.
The Metroid reveal was too exciting. Tears in my eyes, yes literal tears. As this was a game that was mentioned 15+ years ago and then never spoken of afterwards. So to see it go from a concept, to possibility, shelved, resurrected and now only 4 months away from being in our hands. It’s truly any Metroid fans dream come true. Is it October yet?! The countdown begins.
As the year goes on, there are many events like PAXWest, ComicCon, etc., that I would love to attend and be apart of, but I think I will hold off until next year. I am currently not comfortable being at such events in an enclosed space at this time. If by December, things are in a much better place then yes we could start then. Video Game Awards maybe? But for now, I’ll stick with the safe space of my home, watching everything safely.
To those attending events and/or concerts rest of the year, please stay safe.
