Quarantine Thoughts
Everyone has a story, when it comes to living through these rough times. I won’t sit here and tell you the usual things like cliche phrases, such as: “This too shall pass, & Better days lie ahead”
You want to know why?..Because no one knows what is next. NO ONE!
Not even experts can say they actually know what needs to be done. Everything so far has been a day to day basis. Finding out new information that may have contradicted that which was given the previous week.
But you know what, that is OKAY!! You hear me?! IT IS OKAY!!!
IT IS OKAY to not have a routine. Especially if you have never had one before. If you haven’t learned “a new skill or hustle”, after day 376848 of been in quarantine, its OKAY! You are NOT obliged to do anything but maintain your health. When I speak of health, I am talking about physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
The very essentials that are day to day living. The things that most of us, including myself, struggle to find some sort of balance. It gets even tougher when you live in a big city like New York. You need to work, so you end up working 45 hours a week minimum. Then workout, socialize, eat well, mediate, a hobby and possibly fit in a personal relationship, if its on the agenda.
So now we find ourselves in a pandemic. Most of us are on lockdown. Now we aren’t able to do our regular day to day, whatever that may be for you. Now the concerns pile on:
What’s gonna happen next?
How will I make it through all of this?
Will I still have a job?
How can I take care of my loved ones, if I am not able to be around them to help?
When will life go back to normal?
All of those questions begin to arise. Overthinking the most trivial things like: Is having a drink at 9am ok? I mean its 5pm somewhere, and brunch starts at 11am. So go ahead and do it!
Do the things you love to do!!
By now, if you are reading this, then you know I LOVE FOOD! So UberEats, has been my closest friend for a few weeks/months, however long it has been now. So order your fave things to feel some kind of normal. More on that topic in a future post. ;-)
Call your friends/family/loved ones on FaceTime here and there. It helps alot, trust me.
Your main concern should be, and this is my opinion since I’m no expert, but placing that energy into the now. I like to plan things out, and I’ve accepted not being able to do so. If I chose not to accept that reality, I would have lost my mind by now.
So guess what? If you’ve take time to rest more, and embraced the sudden halt that life has pushed onto you without warning. Then you’ve definitely learned a new skill. Celebrate it.
Take it from someone who worked relentlessly for 13 years, and realized one day that my health, on all levels, was more important than anything. I quit said job. It was supposed to be just a 3 month break. But during that time, I learned the skill of REST! How much different everything felt, how much all the things I enjoyed so much, were even more enjoyable when it wasn’t forced into my day. So if you have been that person, who never had time for anything before, take this time now, for yourself. Look back, write things down, reevaluate and push forward with a new take on life.
Our future might be hazy at the moment. We will have to collectively, create ‘a new normal’ to go forward. So why not take time now to rebuild yourself, and be ready to step into the new world.
